Half-Life: Alyx menawarkan banyak momen luar biasa di sepanjang permainan. Baku tembak yang seru, eksplorasi bawah tanah yang mencekam, beragam teka-teki yang unik, dan masih banyak lagi. Di awal-awal game pemain berada di sebuah rumah kaca kumuh yang berada di atas atap di Kota 17. Di salah satu sudut ruangan terdapat penghapus dan beberapa spidol yang dapat digunakan oleh pemain untuk menulis di kaca ruangan tersebut. Ini merupakan penambahan kecil dan sederhana, yang bisa terlewatkan begitu saja jika tidak diperhatikan dengan seksama. Walau begitu, sudut ini sangat populer di kalangan pemain, terbukti dari sudah banyaknya orang berbagi karya mereka berupa gambar dan coretan lainnya di hari pertama peluncuran game ini.

Yang lebih menariknya adalah, di antara semua karya tersebut, satu pemain mengambil pendekatan yang lebih proaktif, yaitu menggunakan game ini sebagai media untuk menyampaikan materi pelajaran matematika jarak jauh kepada murid-muridnya melalui game VR. Dalam sebuah video yang diposting ke YouTube berjudul “Let’s Play: Angle Vocabulary Review (dalam Half-Life: Alyx)”, pengguna Charles Coomber memandu audiens dengan ulasan pelajaran Angle Vocabulary selama sekitar 15 menit, dengan menggunakan spidol untuk membantu menggambarkan pelajarannya di kaca yang kotor. Menurut deskripsi, video tersebut adalah bagian dari program berkelanjutan yang disebut sebagai “Homeschooling Week”, yang merupakan respon dan tindakan terhadap wabah COVID-19.
Tentu saja ada cara yang lebih baik dalam menyampaikan materi pelajaran melalui VR. Sejumlah penyedia headset telah bekerja sama dengan berbagai platform pembelajaran untuk memberikan pendidikan jarak jauh selama lockdown global ini. Namun, penyampaian materi pelajaran melalui game VR ini bisa memberikan kesan tersendiri dan menarik perhatian siswa lebih luas lagi, karena bermain game saat ini bukan hanya untuk media hiburan saja, namun merupakan kebutuhan gaya hidup.
Tidak ada habisnya memang apabila kita membahas tentang VR, selain untuk hiburan banyak sekali manfaat dari teknologi ini yang telah dirasakan mulai dari media pelatihan lebih aman dan efisien, hingga meningkatkan efektifitas dalam kerja team dan kolaborasi terutama manfaatnya terasa sekali di masa lockdown karena wabah corona ini.
